Previously held the position of Head of School of Business, University of Ballarat. Prior to that, Professor of Strategic Management at UWE (Bristol), Professor of Management at the University of Wollongong and Senior Lecturer at the Universities of Nottingham and Bath.

Julian's research expertise is in the areas of strategic management, technology strategy and innovation, and new venture creation. Currently, he is involved in a number of projects including: strategy in post buy out MBOs; alliances in the aerospace industry; and clustering in regional business development.
Extensive research and publication in the fields of Technology Transfer; Small-Medium Enterprises; Strategic Alliances; Resource Conservation and Environmental Control; Strategic Management.
